The Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL) on 30th June 2026 engaged over 500 police recruits at the Police Training School in Hastings on the fundamentals of human rights.

The session, led by HRCSL Chairperson Madam Patricia Narsu Ndanema, aimed to help recruits understand that human rights are practical issues that affect daily life, including freedom, education, health, and security.

Madam Ndanema explained key categories of human rights, including civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights, using simple examples to show how they apply in everyday situations.

She reminded the recruits that understanding human rights helps them perform their duties professionally and in line with the law, while also respecting the rights of citizens.

She further reaffirmed HRCSL’s commitment to working closely with the Sierra Leone Police in promoting and protecting human rights across the country.

The session ended with increased awareness among the recruits on the importance of human rights in policing and public service.
