HRCSL Hears MMTU Rights Case

The Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL) on Tuesday, 1 July 2026, commenced hearing a case involving Emmanuel Anthony and three others against the Vice Chancellor and Principal of the Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) and the Sierra Leone Police.

The complainants allege violations of their right to a fair hearing and their right to freedom from degrading and inhumane treatment.

During the proceedings, Emmanuel Anthony presented his case before the Commission through an online video link, while two of the other complainants appeared in person.

The hearing was conducted before a panel of Commissioners comprising HRCSL Chairperson, Mrs. Patricia Narsu Ndanema, Vice Chairperson Victor Idrissa Lansana Esq., and Commissioner Simitie Lavaly Esq.

Milton Margai Technical University was represented by Jane Konteh Esq. and H.W.P. Kamara. The University’s Registrar, Madam Christiana Pearce, was also present during the hearing.

The Commission adjourned the matter to 7 July 2026, when the complainants are expected to conclude their case and present supporting evidence before the Tribunal.
