Chief Justice Kamanda Co-Chairs African ADR Summit in Kenya

Sierra Leone’s Chief Justice, Justice Komba Kamanda, has co-chaired a key session at the 3rd Africa Chief Justices’ Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Summit held in Nairobi, Kenya.

The two-day summit, which took place from June 18 to 19, brought together chief justices, judges, legal practitioners, academics, policymakers, and other justice sector stakeholders from across Africa to discuss ways of improving access to justice through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Alternative Justice Systems (AJS).

During his presentation, Chief Justice Kamanda highlighted the importance of ADR in helping African judiciaries speed up the delivery of justice and improve access to legal services for citizens.

He noted that alternative dispute resolution mechanisms provide practical solutions for reducing case backlogs and ensuring timely settlement of disputes.

Accompanying the Chief Justice were Supreme Court Judge Justice Alusine Sesay, Court of Appeal Judge Justice John Bosco Allieu, and High Court Judge Justice Adrian J. Fisher.

Speaking at the summit, Chief Justice Kamanda said the engagement reflects a collective commitment by African judiciaries to adopt more inclusive and effective approaches to dispute resolution.

The Africa Chief Justices’ ADR Summit was first launched in Kampala, Uganda, in 2024 and has since become an important platform for promoting judicial reforms and strengthening alternative dispute resolution systems across the continent.

Sierra Leone’s participation in the summit demonstrates the country’s commitment to judicial reform, improved case management, and enhanced access to justice for all citizens.
