SLAJ Backs Campaign Against Harmful Drugs

By Mohamed Kamara

The President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Alhaji Manika Kamara, joined young people on 10th December 2025 to mark International Human Rights Day by participating in the Youth Stand for Human Rights Sierra Leone march.

Addressing participants, Alhaji Manika Kamara stated the dangers of drug abuse, describing it as a growing threat to the health, dignity, and future of the nation’s youth. He emphasized that drug abuse fuels violence, breaks families, and undermines fundamental human rights.

SLAJ, he said, is committed to raising awareness through responsible media reporting and supporting community efforts in prevention, rehabilitation, and advocacy.

Alhaji Manika Kamara commended the organisers and participants for taking a stand against harmful drugs, urging all stakeholders, institutions, government, and youth, to work together in protecting young lives.

As the march proceeded from Upgun to Cotton Tree, participants carried the message: “Say No to Harmful Drugs.”

The SLAJ President concluded by encouraging young people to choose hope, advocacy, and leadership in building a drug-free future.
