The Sierra Leone Immigration Department (SLID) has continued its decentralization drive with the establishment of immigration services in Bo, Southern Region.

The initiative forms part of efforts to bring immigration services closer to the people and reduce the need for citizens to travel to Freetown to access essential services. Similar decentralization programmes have already been implemented in Makeni and Kenema.

Speaking at the event held on Thursday, 11th June 2026, at Lyon Road, Kortebuma Section in Bo, officials said the move is aimed at improving service delivery and enhancing public access to immigration services across the country.

A nationwide launch of the decentralization programme is expected to take place in Freetown in the near future.

The event attracted several dignitaries, including the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Resident Minister South, the Mayor of Bo City, the Chairman of the Bo District Council, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Internal Affairs, the CEO of Next Page, and other stakeholders.

The decentralization initiative has been widely welcomed as a significant step towards improving accessibility and efficiency in the delivery of immigration services nationwide.
