University Senate Discusses Key Reforms

The University Senate has deliberated on a number of key issues aimed at strengthening academic standards and improving institutional effectiveness across the university.

The discussions took place during a Senate meeting held on 4 June 2026 and focused on reforms designed to enhance the university’s structures, policies, and operational systems.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Aiah Lebbie, commended members of the Senate for their valuable contributions. He emphasized the importance of continuous reforms in promoting quality education and institutional growth.

Among the issues discussed were sustainable funding mechanisms for tertiary institutions, admission requirements for Grade A universities, and measures to improve employment opportunities for graduates.

Senate members also examined research programmes, stressing the need for postgraduate research to address national development priorities and contribute to solving societal challenges.

The meeting further discussed strategies to increase enrolment in language studies, particularly foreign language programmes, to better prepare students for opportunities in an increasingly globalized world.

The deliberations form part of ongoing efforts by the university to strengthen academic excellence and improve the quality of higher education in Sierra Leone.
