
Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has officially completed its nationwide cartographic mapping exercise for the 2026 Population and Housing Census with the symbolic mapping of the Presidential Lodge at Hill Station in Freetown.
The event was attended by President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, who participated in the exercise by responding to questions from the mapping team as Head of Household. Also present were the First Lady, senior government officials, representatives of the media, officials from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and staff of Statistics Sierra Leone.

The symbolic exercise marked the end of months of fieldwork conducted across the country as part of preparations for the 2026 Population and Housing Census.
Speaking at the event, Statistician-General and Chief Census Officer, Andrew Bob Johnny, briefed the President on progress made so far, including the successful completion of the pilot census and the nationwide mapping exercise. He also highlighted preparations for the upcoming mock census.
Cartographic Mapping Consultant, Dr. Foluke Adebayo, presented an overview of the mapping process and achievements recorded during the exercise.
President Bio commended Statistics Sierra Leone for the progress made and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the successful conduct of the 2026 Population and Housing Census.
The event concluded with the symbolic mapping of the Presidential Lodge, signifying the official completion of the nationwide cartographic mapping exercise.
Statistics Sierra Leone described the exercise as a major milestone in census preparations, noting that cartographic mapping is essential for accurately identifying structures, households, and enumeration areas ahead of the national census.
