Prof. Jalloh Seeks Backing for ICJ Seat

By Betty Milton, Information Attaché, Brussels Professor Charles Jalloh continued his outreach to diplomatic missions in Brussels on Tuesday, 2nd June 2026, as part of Sierra Leone’s campaign ahead of the November election to the International Court of Justice

Meetings were held with the Ambassador of Latvia, H.E. Aiga Liepina; the West African Group of Ambassadors in Brussels (WAGA); the Deputy Head of Mission of the Greek Embassy, Dimitrios Velissaroulis; and the Political Officer of the United States Embassy, Tucker Brown.

The engagements focused on further presenting Professor Jalloh’s credentials, principles, and vision for service on the Court.

At the Latvian Embassy, Deputy Ambassador Mrs. Asmaa James offered a warm and substantive introduction, drawing on the values that Latvia and Sierra Leone hold in common, namely sovereignty, accountability, and a belief in law as the foundation of a peaceful international order.

Throughout the day, Professor Jalloh articulated a consistent and principled message: that the strength of the International Court of Justice ultimately rests on the character and competence of the individuals elected to serve on it.

By the close of proceedings, all missions indicated that they would convey their positive impressions to their respective governments.
