Martina Wins Bar Association Presidency, Calls for Unity

Martina Egbenda has been elected President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) at the Association’s 2026 Annual General Meeting held at the Bintumani Conference Centre in Freetown.

In her victory statement, Madam Egbenda expressed gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in her, describing the outcome as a collective call for unity and meaningful progress.

She also thanked her campaign team, advisers, supporters and volunteers, while commending her fellow contestants for their participation in the election.

“The campaigns are over and the work of uniting the Bar begins now,” she said, stressing that a divided Bar would be a weakened one.

The new SLBA President pledged to promote unity, trust and inclusiveness within the legal profession, ensuring that both newly called lawyers and senior members feel a genuine sense of belonging.

She further outlined her vision to restore confidence, strengthen members’ welfare and promote professionalism within the Association.

According to her, open communication, respectful engagement and the collective experience of members would be central to her leadership.

While acknowledging the challenges facing the Association, Madam Egbenda expressed confidence that members could overcome them through professionalism and cooperation.

She concluded by thanking members for their trust and support, calling on the legal community to unite under one Bar for the progress of the profession.
