Kambia Hospital Strengthens Ebola Preparedness

Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer (CNMO), Dr. Patricia Bah, has visited Kambia Government Hospital and the District Health Management Team (DHMT) to strengthen the Ministry of Health’s 300-Days Activism, reinforce Ebola preparedness and promote professionalism among nurses and midwives.

The visit focused on the Ministry’s Triple Zero initiative, which aims to achieve zero preventable maternal deaths, zero preventable child deaths and zero-dose children.

Addressing healthcare workers, Dr. Bah emphasised the importance of teamwork, accountability and quality healthcare delivery in achieving these targets. She urged nurses and midwives to ensure that pregnant women and children receive timely, respectful and appropriate care.

She also called on healthcare workers to uphold professional ethics, respect patients’ rights and dignity, maintain confidentiality and treat all patients fairly.

On Ebola preparedness, Dr. Bah stressed the need for strict adherence to infection prevention and control measures, including proper hand hygiene, the correct use of personal protective equipment, environmental cleaning and safe healthcare waste management.

Medical Superintendent of Kambia Government Hospital, Dr. Esther Kpakiwa, welcomed the delegation and encouraged nurses and midwives to translate the objectives of the 300-Days Activism into daily practice through early identification of complications, timely interventions and appropriate referrals.

She also highlighted the importance of teamwork and compliance with established infection prevention and control protocols in strengthening the hospital’s preparedness for potential public health emergencies.

The District Health Sister-2, Sister Faya, and Senior Matron, Marvell C. Ghombo, expressed appreciation for the visit and encouraged healthcare workers to maintain professional standards and remain committed to the Triple Zero targets.

The engagement reaffirmed the commitment of Kambia Government Hospital and the DHMT to improving maternal and child health outcomes, strengthening nursing and midwifery practice, and protecting healthcare workers and communities against public health threats.
