Freetown City Council (FCC), in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), has cleared storm debris that blocked about 40 meters of one lane of the Bai Bureh Road in the Portee Brima Lane area following heavy rainfall on Monday night.
The debris, mainly household waste, disrupted traffic flow before FCC staff moved in to restore access as part of ongoing emergency waste management efforts.
Officials from FCC urged residents to register with approved waste collection service providers, warning that illegal dumping by unlicensed operators contributes to flooding and environmental hazards.

The Council also stressed the need for improved land use planning and a stronger building permit system to ensure proper access for sanitation services across communities.
FCC called on residents to support efforts to keep the city clean, noting that maintaining a flood-free Freetown is a shared responsibility.
