Sierra Leone has recorded a proud moment at the ongoing WAFU U-20 Women’s Tournament 2026 in Guinea-Bissau, as two of its female referees delivered an impressive performance on the international stage.
FIFA Centre Referee Aminata Fullah and Assistant Referee Agnes Gbla officiated the opening clash between Senegal and Gambia, demonstrating confidence, professionalism, and strong command throughout the match.

Their selection to handle such a high-profile game highlights the growing standard of refereeing in Sierra Leone, particularly in women’s football. The achievement has been attributed to ongoing efforts by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to build capacity and promote women’s participation in the sport.
A notable highlight of the tournament is Aminata Fullah’s selection as the face of refereeing, with her image featured on official training materials and publications, further boosting Sierra Leone’s visibility in African football.
Although Senegal won the match 2-0, the performance of the Sierra Leonean referees has been widely praised as a symbol of progress and excellence in the country’s football development.
