Freetown Cable Car Plans Presented in Saudi

Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr of Freetown has showcased the city’s ambitious Cable Car public transit project at the CoMotion Global Conference on Urban Mobility, held from 7th to 9th December 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

During her keynote address, titled “Reimagining Urban Futures: The Story of Freetown,” Mayor Aki-Sawyerr highlighted the city’s vision for sustainable, climate-conscious urban development and inclusive growth. She acknowledged the challenges of rapid population growth and limited urban planning authority, while emphasizing opportunities to transform Freetown’s transport network.

The Mayor explained that the Cable Car project has completed full feasibility studies and received government support from the Ministry of Finance in September 2025. The project now focuses on securing the necessary financing to implement the transformative initiative.

Beyond her speech, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr held bilateral meetings with key global stakeholders, including Fahd Al-Rasheed, Advisor in the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of Saudi Arabia, to explore innovative financing partnerships.

The Mayor reaffirmed her commitment to building collaborations that will make the Freetown Cable Car a reality, transforming mobility in the capital and supporting sustainable urban growth.
