AWOL members pose with hospital staff and beneficiary patients after the donation ceremony
Members of AWOL UK, in collaboration with AWOL Sierra Leone, on Sunday 10th May 2026 donated medical items to the Rokupa Government Hospital in the eastern part of Freetown as part of the organisation’s continued commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and strengthening healthcare delivery.

The donated items included wheelchairs, mattresses, blankets, Zimma frames, medical trolleys, baby packs, and other essential medical supplies aimed at improving patient care and supporting the work of the hospital staff.
Vice Chairman of AWOL UK, Mohamed Jalloh, who presented the items on behalf of the UK Chapter, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to humanitarian service.
“AWOL has always been committed to giving back to society and supporting the less privileged. We are a charity organisation based in the United Kingdom, dedicated to helping those in need. The Rokupa Government Hospital is one of the most important hospitals serving the eastern part of Freetown, handling an overwhelming number of cases daily. This gesture means a great deal to us because of the appreciation shown by the hospital and the community. It motivates us to continue reaching out to our supporters to sustain this important work,” he said.
Also speaking during the presentation, Chairman of AWOL Sierra Leone, Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, commended the hospital staff for their dedication and sacrifices in serving the community under challenging conditions.
“We want to sincerely thank the management and staff of Rokupa Government Hospital for the remarkable work they continue to do under very difficult circumstances. AWOL believes strongly in giving back selflessly and complementing the efforts of government in nation building. Beyond our humanitarian interventions, AWOL also recognises individuals and institutions through our National Achievement Awards for their outstanding contributions to the common good, while continuing to support education through our annual June 16 Day of the African Child activities,” he stated.
Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, Senior Matron Fatmata Musa Kamara described the donation as timely and impactful.
“This donation is both timely and important. We have already started distributing some of the items to beneficiaries. AWOL has been supporting Rokupa Government Hospital even before my arrival here, and they have remained one of the organisations that has consistently assisted us over the years. The items donated will greatly improve the services provided by the hospital,” she noted.
She further disclosed plans to name one of the hospital wards the “AWOL Ward” in recognition of the organisation’s longstanding support, particularly towards the construction of the hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit.
The ceremony was also witnessed by three women who had recently given birth at the hospital. They each received baby items as a symbolic gesture and expressed appreciation for what they described as a timely intervention that would greatly support mothers and new-born babies.
