By Mohamed Lamin Banya

The Paramount Chief of Luawa Chiefdom, Alhaji Kailodo Sama Banya, has rallied support for the commissioning of the newly constructed Manowa Bridge by donating five containers of native palm oil and Le4,000 in new notes to the Oversight Committee overseeing preparations for the historic event.

The donation was made on Thursday during the committee’s sixth planning meeting held at the Native Administration Court Barray in Manowa, ahead of the official commissioning scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

Addressing committee members and stakeholders, the Paramount Chief reflected on the numerous challenges that the former Manowa Ferry posed to residents over the years.

He noted that the ferry hampered agricultural productivity, disrupted access to education and healthcare services, and negatively affected the livelihoods of communities across Peje-Bongre and neighbouring chiefdoms.

He described the completion of the Manowa Bridge as a landmark achievement that will significantly improve transportation, boost trade, and accelerate socio-economic development in the region.

PC Banya also commended President Julius Maada Bio for his government’s commitment to national development, particularly in the areas of agriculture, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

Presenting his contribution, the Paramount Chief said, “I am the people’s representative and servant.

This contribution may be small, but I humbly plead with you to accept these gifts on behalf of my people.”

Members of the Oversight Committee warmly welcomed the donation and praised the Paramount Chief’s continued support for the successful commissioning of the bridge, which is widely expected to transform connectivity and economic activities in Kailahun District and beyond.

The commissioning ceremony is expected to attract government officials, traditional leaders, development partners, and residents from across the district, marking a significant milestone in the region’s infrastructure development.
