USL Showcases COMAHS Digital Anatomy Innovation Ahead of Public Service Celebration

The University of Sierra Leone (USL) Communication Team has visited the Anatomy Laboratory at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) to document a new digital innovation set to be showcased at the upcoming Public Service Celebration on June 23 at the Miatta Conference Centre.

The visit highlighted the introduction of the Anatomage digital anatomy system, a modern technology that allows medical students to study the human body in 3D using an interactive touchscreen table.

According to Dr. Isaac Olufemi Smalle, Dean of Basic Sciences at COMAHS, the innovation has transformed anatomy teaching by replacing limited traditional resources with advanced digital tools that enhance student learning.

He explained that students can now explore bones, muscles, nerves, and organs in detail, making medical education more interactive and accessible.

Previously, anatomy training relied heavily on a small number of cadavers shared among large groups of students, limiting hands-on learning opportunities.

The new system now allows each student to actively engage with detailed digital models of the human body from multiple angles.

Dr. Smalle described the technology as a major step forward in medical education, noting that it is improving student engagement and understanding of complex human anatomy.

The innovation is part of broader efforts by the University of Sierra Leone to promote digital transformation and strengthen human capital development in the country’s education and health sectors.

The COMAHS facility will be among the key exhibits at the upcoming Public Service Celebration, showcasing advancements in science, technology, and education in Sierra Leone.
