President Julius Maada Bio has formally received the newly appointed Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mohamed Alphaka Conteh, Esq., at State House.

Presenting the new NSA boss to the President, Minister of Sports Augusta James-Teima described the appointment as a significant boost to the sports sector. She commended Mr. Conteh for his leadership style, describing him as humble, consultative, and widely respected.
The Minister said positive changes have already been recorded within the NSA in less than a month, including improved workplace decorum, transparency, and progress towards the partial handover of the National Stadium.
She expressed confidence that continued collaboration between the Ministry and the NSA would lead to further achievements in the sector.
In his remarks, President Bio congratulated Mr. Conteh on his appointment and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports development.
The President urged the new Executive Director to serve diligently and maintain a good reputation while carrying out his duties.
He also encouraged stronger collaboration between the Ministry of Sports and the NSA, emphasizing that sports unites Sierra Leoneans regardless of political affiliation.
President Bio recalled the country’s qualification for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), noting that the achievement brought the nation together behind the Leone Stars.
He expressed confidence that with teamwork and commitment, Sierra Leone could qualify for the 2027 AFCON tournament.
The President also pledged government support for the upcoming FIFA-sanctioned international friendly matches between Sierra Leone and Liberia scheduled for June 6 and 9 in Bo and Monrovia.
