Officers Certified in Cross-Border Crime Detection

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sahr Yomba Senesi, has called for effective border management and improved security cooperation during the certification ceremony for 18 officers trained in detecting stolen vehicles and cross-border crimes.

The ceremony took place on Friday, 22nd May 2026, following a week-long INTERPOL training programme facilitated by experts from France.

Participants in the training were drawn from the National Revenue Authority, Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority, Sierra Leone Immigration Department, and the Sierra Leone Police.

Speaking at the event, DIG Senesi described the training as timely and important, noting that modern policing depends heavily on the skills and professionalism of security personnel.

He urged participants to share the knowledge gained with colleagues and use the skills acquired to strengthen national security and combat transnational crimes.

The DIG also warned that weak border management creates opportunities for criminals and other undesirable persons to enter the country easily.

On behalf of the Inspector General of Police, he thanked the INTERPOL experts for supporting Sierra Leone’s security institutions through capacity-building initiatives.

INTERPOL training expert, Police Commandant Didier Clergeot, commended the participants for their dedication and said they are now better equipped to identify stolen vehicles and address cross-border crimes effectively.

Officials from INTERPOL and the Sierra Leone Police also highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling international criminal activities.

The ceremony ended with the presentation of certificates to participants from the various institutions.
