Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has announced a series of Cabinet decisions aimed at strengthening Sierra Leone’s governance, economy, and institutional reforms.

Speaking at the weekly government press conference at the Miatta Civic Centre on Tuesday, 12th May 2026, Minister Bah said the decisions were taken during the Cabinet meeting held on 6th May 2026 and reflect government efforts to promote democratic reforms, digital transformation, industrial growth, and food production.

He disclosed that Cabinet has approved the Management and Functional Review (MFR) of five key democratic institutions, including the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone and the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation, to improve efficiency, accountability, and transparency.

The Minister also announced approval of amendments to the Work Permit Act of 2023, which will introduce a fully digital work permit system expected to begin in January 2026. He said the reform will reduce delays, improve efficiency, and strengthen accountability.

In addition, Cabinet approved major investment projects, including a $62 million expansion of SONOCO S.A. Limited, a $41 million manufacturing agreement with Solid Africa Manufacturing Company for biscuit and confectionery production, and a $20 million concessionary deal with Real Value Foods (SL) Ltd for modern meat and frozen food processing facilities.

According to Minister Bah, these investments form part of President Bio’s “Big Five” development agenda aimed at reducing food imports, creating jobs, and boosting the private sector.

Cabinet also approved a standardized academic calendar for all accredited higher education institutions, set to begin in the 2026/2027 academic year. Under the new system, all teaching and examinations will end by 31st July each year, with the new academic year starting in October.

Minister Bah emphasized that the public disclosure of Cabinet decisions reflects a commitment to transparency and citizen engagement in governance.
