The Eastern Regional Office of the National Commission for Democracy (NCD) has conducted a civic education outreach at the Methodist Girls High School in Kenema, focusing on promoting democratic values and discouraging drug abuse among school-going pupils.
The engagement, held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, was led by NCD programmes and research officers on behalf of Regional Commissioner Pastor Momoh Bockarie.
Speaking during the session, Regional Programmes Officer Mr. Amadu Wurie educated pupils on key democratic principles such as participation, equality, accountability, respect for human rights, and the rule of law. He encouraged students to apply these values in school and at home, while avoiding behaviours that could negatively affect their future.

The NCD team also highlighted the importance of youth involvement in sustaining democracy and promoting patriotism. Pupils actively participated in the discussion and answered questions posed by the facilitators, demonstrating understanding of the topics covered.
However, the team noted the need for continued civic education, particularly on drug abuse and national awareness issues.
The outreach team thanked the school administration and pupils for their cooperation and warm reception, describing the engagement as productive and encouraging.
