The Ministry of Information and Civic Education, in partnership with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, has hosted a seminar and symposium aimed at promoting nation building and civic responsibility among young people.

The event took place on April 25 at the Miatta Conference Center as part of activities marking Sierra Leone’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

It brought together youths from across the country to discuss their role in national development.

Facilitators encouraged participants to take responsibility for the country’s future, emphasizing that development depends not only on government but also on active citizen participation.

Participants were divided into groups focusing on areas such as gender, media, security, artificial intelligence, and youth empowerment.

They later presented recommendations to improve civic engagement and support national progress.

The symposium featured prominent academics, including Cecil Blake, Miriam Conteh-Morgan, and Joe A.D. Alie, who stressed the importance of patriotism and active citizenship.

Speakers also raised concerns about examination malpractice, declining parental guidance, and the need to promote integrity within society.

The Ministry thanked participants and partners for their contributions and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening civic education and national dialogue in Sierra Leone.
