Government Invests $3.5m in Medical Education Infrastructure

The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Health and development partners, has announced a $3.5 million investment in a new Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences building aimed at strengthening human capital development.

The project is expected to significantly expand learning capacity for more than 1,500 students once completed.

The facility will include a 350-seat auditorium, five large classrooms each accommodating 250 students, seven departmental offices, a modern Dean’s complex, and six advanced laboratories.

It will also feature ICT facilities, improved sanitation systems, open office spaces for lecturers, and a lift system to enhance accessibility.

According to project details, all classrooms, offices, and laboratories will be equipped with modern furniture and digital learning tools.

The building is designed with sustainability in mind, incorporating green energy systems to ensure environmental efficiency.

Officials say the facility is expected to be fully operational by the 2026/27 academic year and will play a key role in improving medical training and boosting Sierra Leone’s human capital development agenda.
