Leaders of 14 registered political parties in Sierra Leone held a historic meeting at the headquarters of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), marking the first time such a large cross-party delegation has gathered at Unity House.
The meeting was hosted by SLPP National Chairman, Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, alongside Deputy National Chairman Robert K. Kargbo. The visiting delegation was led by Harold Turay, National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Chairman of the All Political Parties Association (APPA).

Describing the gathering as unprecedented, Songa welcomed the leaders and thanked them for their support of the President’s nominee for Chief Electoral Commissioner. He also praised their shared commitment to upholding the Constitution and strengthening democracy.

Also speaking at the meeting, the Leader of Government Business, Matthew Sahr Nyuma, encouraged political parties to continue supporting democracy and national development. He commended their role in maintaining peace and promoting unity across the country.
Harold Turay reaffirmed his party’s support for the electoral commissioner nominee, stating that it was based on merit and experience. He also called on the All People’s Congress (APC) to respect the rule of law.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Barrie, Chairman of the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee, stressed the importance of cooperation among political parties. He urged leaders to see each other as partners in nation-building and emphasized dialogue as key to peace and unity.
The meeting also highlighted calls to expand the National Unity Agreement to include more political parties, ensuring broader participation in governance and decision-making.
