Civil Aviation Boss Inspires Girls at Empowerment Forum

The Director General of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), Madam Musayeroh Barrie, has participated as a panellist at the 11th Annual National Girls Empowerment Forum 2026, where she encouraged young girls to build confidence, recognise their worth and pursue leadership opportunities.

The discussion focused on confidence and self-esteem, body image, peer pressure, knowing one’s worth beyond physical appearance and the influence of social media on young girls.

Drawing from her experience as a woman in leadership in the aviation industry, Madam Barrie urged girls to value their character, abilities and contributions rather than define themselves by appearance, popularity or social media following.

She also encouraged them to remain focused on their education, establish healthy boundaries and resist peer pressure that could negatively affect their values, safety and future.

On social media, she advised young girls to use digital platforms positively to acquire knowledge, develop skills, showcase their talents and create opportunities.

Madam Barrie further emphasised that competence, preparation, professionalism and dedication should determine leadership opportunities, encouraging girls interested in aviation and other male-dominated professions to pursue their ambitions without fear of stereotypes.

The SLCAA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote education, confidence, equal opportunities and the development of future female leaders.
