Former Sierra Leone President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma has joined African leaders, policymakers, diplomats and security experts in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, for the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa, held from 23 to 25 October 2026.
The forum is being held under the theme, “Pathways to Peace in Africa: Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation.”
The gathering comes at a time when Africa continues to face security challenges, including prolonged conflicts, shifting geopolitical alliances and competition over strategic resources.
Discussions are focusing on the relationship between economic independence, political stability and lasting peace, as well as ways African countries can strengthen regional cooperation and take greater ownership of their security priorities.
The former President is scheduled to participate in a high-level panel titled, “From the Margins to the Centre: Building an African Model for Peace and Sovereignty in an Age of Geopolitical Rivalry.”

The panel is expected to examine how African countries can strengthen economic independence, use natural resources to promote sustainable development and build stronger institutions to address security challenges.
The forum also aims to encourage practical commitments to conflict prevention, mediation and the strengthening of Africa’s peace and security architecture.
Ernest Bai Koroma’s participation reflects his continued engagement in discussions on peace, security, governance and development across the continent.
