President Julius Maada Bio on Thursday led the official commissioning of the new ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, describing the facility as a symbol of regional integration and African unity.
President Bio, who is Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, said the new headquarters represents the collective ambition of West African countries to build a peaceful, prosperous, and united region.

Speaking at the ceremony, he noted that the building is more than just a physical structure, adding that its true value will be measured by the decisions and actions taken to improve the lives of citizens across West Africa.
The President thanked the Government of Nigeria for its continued support to ECOWAS and expressed appreciation to the Government of China for funding and constructing the new headquarters.
President Bio called on ECOWAS leaders to focus on creating jobs, promoting trade, strengthening peace and security, empowering women, and providing greater opportunities for young people in the region.
He also highlighted the importance of education, technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation in achieving the goals of ECOWAS Vision 2050.

The ceremony included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, ribbon-cutting, the planting of a Unity Tree, a guided tour of the facility, and a reception for invited guests.
The new ECOWAS Headquarters is expected to strengthen the work of the regional body and support efforts aimed at advancing integration and development across West Africa.
