CJ Kamanda Reaffirms Judicial Independence

Sierra Leone’s Chief Justice, His Lordship Honourable Justice Komba Kamanda, on 30th June 2026 declared open a three-day capacity-building training for High Court Judges at Brookfields Hotel in Freetown.

The training aims to strengthen judicial independence, accountability, and improve the administration of justice through continuous professional development of judges.

In his opening address, the Chief Justice said the programme is part of ongoing judicial reforms designed to enhance the competence, integrity, and efficiency of the Judiciary.

He noted that the training covers key topics such as the Rule of Law, Separation of Powers, cyber security, statutory interpretation, judicial ethics, and case management.

Chief Justice Kamanda reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that judges remain independent, accountable, and responsive to modern legal challenges.

He stressed that such capacity-building initiatives are essential for improving public trust and confidence in the justice system.

The training also featured presentations from international legal experts who emphasized judicial ethics, constitutional democracy, and the importance of upholding the Rule of Law.

The programme brings together High Court Judges for three days of intensive learning aimed at strengthening the justice delivery system in Sierra Leone.
