Sierra Leone has taken a leading role at the Kimberley Process Intercessional Meetings of 2026 currently taking place in Mumbai, India.
Heading the country’s delegation, the Chair of the African Diamond Producers Association (ADPA), Umaru Napoleon Koroma Esq, presided over a pre-Kimberley Process meeting for all ADPA member states on Sunday, 10th May 2026. The session focused on key developments in the diamond sector, including mining, trading, and retail activities.
On Monday, 11th May 2026, he delivered a formal statement on behalf of ADPA during the plenary session. In his address, he called on global stakeholders and the Kimberley Process community to strengthen collaboration aimed at sustaining the diamond industry and ensuring continued benefits for producing countries, despite emerging challenges from the growing presence of lab-grown diamonds in global markets.

He reaffirmed ADPA’s commitment to supporting the current Kimberley Process chairmanship and expressed full support for this year’s theme: “Confidence, Credibility, and Compliance” within the diamond trade.
He further emphasized the importance of protecting the natural diamond industry, which he noted continues to provide livelihoods for millions of people worldwide.
The meetings are expected to continue through Thursday, with several working group sessions scheduled, culminating in the signing of a communiqué outlining the future direction of the Kimberley Process and the sustainability of the natural diamond industry.
