Falaba Road Conditions Hit Livelihoods Hard

By Musa S. Kamara

Residents of Falaba District have expressed frustration over the poor state of roads in their communities as they marked this year’s Independence Day.

Many residents say the bad road conditions have made transportation difficult, especially during the rainy season, with several routes becoming nearly impassable.

The main road linking the district headquarters to Kabala is reported to be in a deplorable state, while several bridges across the district are also said to be in urgent need of repair.

Local leaders and residents say the situation is affecting access to healthcare, education, and trade. Section Chief of Mongo Two, Mohamed Amarah, noted that pregnant women are sometimes transported on motorbikes due to the inability of vehicles to pass during emergencies.

Businesswoman Simba Mara also raised concerns, saying the poor road network is negatively impacting trade and daily economic activities.

Residents are calling on government to urgently address the road challenges to improve movement and support livelihoods in the district.

Although a 261km road project was launched in 2023 to benefit Falaba and surrounding areas, residents say progress has been slow, with many sections still in poor condition.
