By Mohamed Kamara

A joint security operation on Sunday, 16th November 2025, led to the arrest of a native traditional healer identified as Sheku Dabor, residing at Limba Corner, 4 Mile, Newton, for the alleged unlawful possession of a firearm and other suspicious items.

The operation was conducted by a combined team of police personnel and the National President of Traditional Healers, Sheku Tarawallie, as part of a coordinated random search targeting traditional practitioners across Freetown-East and Freetown-West.

This followed growing concerns and suspicions that some individuals within the sector may be engaging in illicit activities under the guise of traditional practice.

During the search at Dabor’s residence, officers reportedly discovered a Glock 17 pistol, approximately eight rounds of ammunition, a communication handset, and a red beret cap, raising immediate security concerns.

He was promptly arrested and taken into custody. According to police sources, the suspect is assisting investigators as they probe deeper into how he acquired the firearm and whether the items are linked to any broader criminal activity.

Authorities say the random searches will continue in the coming days as part of a broader effort to sanitize the traditional healing sector and ensure that practitioners operate within the confines of the law.

Police have assured the public of continued updates as the investigation progresses.
