Stats SL Begins Training for 2026 Pilot Census

Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has launched a ten-day training program for field staff ahead of the 2026 Population and Housing Census.

The training began on 18 November 2025 across Bombali, Kailahun, Bonthe, and the Western Area Urban Districts as part of preparations for the Pilot Census scheduled for December 2025.

The Pilot Census will take place in Kissi Teng Chiefdom (Kailahun), Dema Chiefdom (Bonthe), Mara Chiefdom (Bombali), and Magazine and Mountain Cut (Freetown).

It aims to test census questionnaires, digital data collection tools, logistical arrangements, supervisory structures, and community engagement approaches.

The training will equip enumerators, supervisors, technical staff, and field officers with the skills needed for accurate and reliable data collection.

Stats SL said the exercise will identify operational gaps and ensure systems function smoothly ahead of the nationwide census in December 2026.

Stats SL reaffirmed its commitment to a credible, transparent, and professional national census that reflects Sierra Leone’s true population.
