The Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) has officially conducted a handing-over ceremony between outgoing Managing Director Ing. George Lamin Vandi and the newly appointed first female Managing Director, Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi.
The event took place at SALWACO’s Boardroom in Freetown and included key stakeholders such as the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Dr. Hannah Sao Max-Kaine, the Board Chairman, Joseph Joe Ndanema, and senior management staff.
The ceremony, chaired by Deputy Managing Director Apostle Dr. Albert Harrison Harvey, marked a smooth transition in leadership and highlighted teamwork, continuity, and progress within the company.
Minister Dr. Max-Kaine described the occasion as a “positive and historic moment” for the water sector, noting the significance of appointing a woman to lead SALWACO.
She stressed the need for collaboration between the Managing Director, the Board, and the Ministry to ensure effective service delivery.
Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi expressed gratitude for the appointment and outlined her 100-day plan, which includes assessing institutional gaps, technical challenges, and operational inefficiencies to develop a Strategic Development Plan for transforming SALWACO into a functional and financially viable institution.
Outgoing Managing Director Ing. George Lamin Vandi reflected on his tenure, highlighting achievements in institutional strengthening, infrastructure, and operational efficiency, and pledged support to ensure a smooth transition.
The ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks from SALWACO Company Secretary Mrs. Mayiwa Sia Macauley Esq.
