NASSIT Boss Holds Meeting with Forces Leadership

Pyramid MediaNovember 18, 2025November 17, 202523 mins

By Mohamed Kamara The Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Mohamed Fuaad Daboh, met with the leadership of the Forces last Thursday at his Walpole Street office in Freetown to discuss key issues affecting the Forces under the NASSIT scheme

Mr. Daboh described the Forces as one of the largest contributors to the scheme and highlighted the cordial relationship they have maintained over the years. He also acknowledged challenges in pension administration and pledged to work on solutions in collaboration with the Forces.

During the meeting, the Director General updated the Forces leadership on the digitalisation of NASSIT services, which is aimed at bringing the scheme closer to its members and ensuring timely processing of benefits. He also spoke about extending coverage to informal sector workers, noting that the draft Bill for this initiative has been submitted to the Law Officers’ department and is expected to be laid before Parliament by mid-December 2025, with operationalisation in the first half of 2026.

DG Daboh also called for the Forces’ support in preventing encroachment on NASSIT lands and emphasised the need for a joint meeting between NASSIT, Government, and the Forces to address military-specific pension challenges, including retirement age and invalidity benefits.

The Forces leadership, headed by Lieutenant General Amara Idara Bangura, praised NASSIT for its efforts in improving pension administration, including timely payment of benefits, mobile customer service clinics, and stakeholder engagement. They expressed full support for the review of the NASSIT Act and pledged cooperation to resolve outstanding issues.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to hold a joint session involving NASSIT, Government, and the Forces to address pension-related challenges.
