Information Minister Backs People-First Digital Agenda

At the Sierra Leone Innovation Showcase held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) last week, Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, emphasized a people-centered approach to digital transformation as key to driving sustainable development in Sierra Leone.

Speaking on a high-level panel under the theme “Driving Sustainable Development through Digital Transformation,” Minister Bah said:

“For us, digital transformation is about people first, technology second.”

He highlighted the government’s Cotton Tree Civic Education Strategy, which aims to integrate digital literacy, civic engagement, and open government into everyday life. At the core of this strategy is #DigitizeSalone, a national initiative focused on inclusive technological advancement.

“Our digital civic platforms are bridging the gap between citizens and government,” Bah said. “We’re fostering transparency, dialogue, and building a future where technology strengthens trust, participation, and accountability.”

The Innovation Showcase was organized by the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation and brought together government officials, development partners, and digital experts to highlight Sierra Leone’s progress in using technology for national development.
