Bio Backs Batilo Songa, Calls for Party Unity

President Julius Maada Bio has expressed full confidence in the newly elected National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, urging party members to rally behind him to promote unity, discipline, and effective party organisation.

The President made the remarks while delivering the keynote address at the Inauguration and Fundraising Dinner of the new SLPP National Executive Council at the Freetown International Conference Centre.

Describing the occasion as a moment of renewal, President Bio emphasised that the party’s strength lies in principles, discipline, and respect for democratic structures, rather than individual personalities.

He described Chairman Batilo Songa as a tested and disciplined leader, calling on members to work with him to ensure party cohesion and electoral success.

“When the Chairman stands firm, the Party stands firm,” President Bio said, noting that internal unity allows him to focus on governing the nation effectively.

He cautioned against internal discord, reminding members that historic victories have been built on a shared sense of purpose rather than division.

The President also highlighted the party’s governance achievements and reiterated the SLPP’s commitment to national development through economic resilience, institutional reform, and inclusive growth, stressing the importance of continuity as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.

Concluding his address, President Bio called on members to leave the event with renewed confidence and a collective resolve to strengthen the party, deepen democracy, and continue building “the Sierra Leone we are becoming.”
