Minister Napoleon Koroma Promotes Sierra Leone–India Business Partnership

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Hon. Umaru Napoleon Koroma Esq., has called for stronger business partnerships between Sierra Leone and India to attract investment, create jobs and improve livelihoods.

The minister made the call while serving as Chief Launcher at the opening of Opesh Jewellery Stores in Jaipur, India, on 22 October 2026.

In his remarks, Mr Koroma encouraged investors to explore business opportunities across Africa and build genuine partnerships with local businesses. He also urged investors to operate within the relevant legal and regulatory frameworks to ensure a secure and mutually beneficial investment environment.

He expressed optimism that engagements between African and Indian business communities would lead to concrete partnerships that benefit both sides.

The minister highlighted Sierra Leone’s diamond resources, noting that diamonds from the country reportedly form part of Opesh Jewellery Stores’ product supply. He said stronger partnerships could expand market access for Sierra Leonean diamonds, promote responsible investment and create employment opportunities, particularly for young people.

Mr Koroma also stressed the importance of ensuring that investments generate decent jobs, facilitate skills transfer and contribute to economic development.

He called for a shift from aid dependency towards strategic economic partnerships that enable African countries to add value to their natural resources and secure fair returns from their mineral wealth.

“We are getting tired with the words of developed nations about the Aid to Africa,” he said, emphasising the need for partnerships that deliver tangible benefits through job creation, business growth and sustainable development. The launch of Opesh Jewellery Stores, he noted, provides an opportunity to strengthen economic relations between Sierra Leone and India while encouraging investment that benefits businesses and the wider population
