SLPP Inaugurates Gambia Branch Executive, Strengthens Diaspora Mobilisation

The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) on 28 May 2028 inaugurated its Gambia Branch Executive in a ceremony led by the Deputy National Chairman, Mr. Robert K. Kargbo.

The delegation included senior party officials such as the National Organising Secretary, Mr. Alhassan Gewane Bolugun George; National Financial Secretary, Mr. Shaka Sannoh; National Public Relations Officer, Mr. Moses Sellu Mambu; Female Trustee for the Northeast Region, Haja Adama Abu Abdulai Koroma; and Female Trustee for the Northwest Region, Madam Memunatu Adama Turay.

According to reports, the inauguration was successful, with the Branch Chairman pledging to intensify recruitment of Sierra Leoneans residing in the Gambia. He also noted that the branch would support the National Executive in mobilising resources and strengthening the party’s prospects ahead of the 2028 Presidential Election.

During the visit, the SLPP delegation established political engagements with the ruling party in the Gambia, which facilitated a courtesy meeting with President Adama Barrow and the First Lady.

The Deputy National Chairman expressed appreciation to President Barrow for his hospitality and commended his leadership and development efforts in the Gambia. He also conveyed greetings from the SLPP National Chairman and Leader.

President Barrow welcomed the delegation and described Sierra Leone and the Gambia as sister nations with strong historical and cultural ties. He highlighted ongoing development efforts in his country and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between the two nations and their ruling parties.

He further reaffirmed his close working relationship with President Julius Maada Bio and expressed commitment to strengthening bilateral and party-level collaboration.

At the end of the visit, President Barrow hosted the delegation to traditional Gambian cuisine before their departure.

In a statement, the SLPP National Chairman, Jimmy Batilo Songa, commended the delegation for representing the party with dignity and professionalism. He also expressed appreciation to the Government of the Gambia and the SLPP Gambia Branch for their hospitality and commitment.

He emphasized that effective leadership is demonstrated through the ability to empower others, build strong teams, and create opportunities for service beyond oneself.
