The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has said that the newly constructed border post at Jendema is helping to improve revenue collection and strengthen security along the Sierra Leone-Liberia border.

Speaking during the National Civic Day Series in Pujehun District on 1st June 2026, the NRA’s Director of Research, Planning and Monitoring, Dr. Philip Kargbo, said the modern facility has increased tax collection and improved the monitoring of people and goods crossing the border.

Dr. Kargbo explained that the border post demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving revenue administration and protecting national interests. He noted that the facility is helping the NRA to collect more taxes while supporting national security efforts.
He said domestic revenue has become increasingly important as donor support has declined in recent years. According to him, taxes collected by the NRA are being used to fund major development projects, including roads and electricity expansion in Pujehun District.
“The development people are seeing today, including roads and electricity, is largely made possible through taxes paid by citizens and businesses,” he said.
Dr. Kargbo also encouraged citizens, especially young people, to pay their taxes and always ask for GST receipts when purchasing goods and services. He said this would help improve tax compliance and accountability.
He added that taxpayers are better able to hold the government accountable for how public funds are spent.
The NRA official further noted that tax compliance can create business opportunities, as tax clearance certificates are required for government contracts.
Looking ahead, Dr. Kargbo disclosed plans by the NRA to establish a presence in Solima, which he described as an important economic area with great potential for revenue generation.
He assured residents that efforts are underway to bring NRA services closer to the people of Solima as part of the Authority’s expansion programme.
The NRA is one of the key partners supporting the National Civic Day Series and will continue its public tax education campaign during the town hall meeting scheduled for June 2, 2026, in Pujehun.
