Senior government officials and representatives of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) on Wednesday inspected the NANT Project plant at Kissy Terminal in Freetown as part of efforts to improve electricity supply in the capital.
The delegation was led by Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister,, Minister of Energy, and MCC Acting Vice President for Compact Operations Africa,.
Other officials present included MCA-SL Chief Executive Officer, MCC Country Director, and U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires.

During the visit, Dr. Sengeh praised the progress of the project and described it as an important step towards stabilizing electricity supply in Freetown. He said the government remains committed to improving access to reliable electricity for homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses.
Energy Minister Cyril Grant said the NANT Project is expected to increase power generation and improve load management within Freetown’s electricity grid. He added that the project will help reduce power outages and support private sector investment in the energy sector.
According to project officials, construction work is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027, while equipment installation and system testing are scheduled for late 2026.
The U.S. Embassy also reaffirmed its support for Sierra Leone’s energy sector, noting that the project complements the $480 million MCC Compact aimed at expanding electricity access across the country.
