President Julius Maada Bio has called for unity, discipline, and early preparations for the 2028 general elections as the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) marked its 75th anniversary.

The celebration, held on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, at the Bintumani Conference Centre in Freetown, brought together party members, government officials, and supporters to reflect on the party’s history and future.
Speaking at the event, President Bio highlighted the SLPP’s role in Sierra Leone’s political development, noting that the party was founded in 1951 on the principles of unity, self-governance, and national service.
He paid tribute to the party’s founding members and past leaders, including former President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, for their contributions to democracy and national unity.

President Bio urged party members to remain disciplined and avoid internal divisions, stressing that strong institutions are key to the party’s continued success.
Looking ahead to the 2028 elections, he called for a transparent and democratic process in selecting the party’s next leader, emphasizing the need for a candidate who can unite the party and the country.
He also reminded supporters that the party’s current responsibility is to deliver effective governance and improve the lives of citizens.
SLPP National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa reaffirmed the party’s commitment to unity, grassroots engagement, and sustainable growth.
The anniversary event was attended by party elders, ministers, Members of Parliament, Paramount Chiefs, diplomats, and supporters from across Sierra Leone.
