AG Meets Reform Partners

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, has met with a delegation of International Moral Guarantors to review progress on Sierra Leone’s electoral and constitutional reform agenda.

The meeting, held at the Guma Building on Lamina Sankoh Street, brought together representatives from ECOWAS, the United Nations, and the Commonwealth, and was led by former Gambian Vice President Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang.

The delegation said their mission is to assess progress on the implementation of the Agreement for National Unity and the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee, which are aimed at strengthening governance and electoral processes in Sierra Leone.

In his remarks, the Attorney General said significant progress has been made in implementing the agreement. He noted that his office is responsible for key legal reforms, including reviewing politically related cases and supporting legislative changes arising from the Tripartite process.

He also highlighted ongoing constitutional review efforts, referencing earlier reform processes such as the Truth and Reconciliation Commission recommendations and previous constitutional review committees.

Alpha Sesay further stated that a constitutional amendment bill on electoral reforms has already been introduced in Parliament, with the aim of completing legal updates ahead of the 2028 general elections.

He added that the government remains committed to ensuring that reforms are guided by both national priorities and international obligations, including those under ECOWAS protocols.

The meeting concluded with renewed calls for continued cooperation between government and international partners to strengthen Sierra Leone’s democratic institutions.
