Civil society groups are calling for better accountability in electricity supply and government spending.
Matilda Ekan Sonsiama, Programme Officer at Accountability Now Sierra Leone, urged the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) to improve electricity services in Freetown.
She discouraged postpaid meters and warned against illegal electricity connections, while raising concerns about staff allegedly accepting bribes.
Sonsiama called for stronger monitoring and accountability within EDSA.
Meanwhile, Joseph Munda Bindi, Chairman of the National Council for Civic Education and Democracy (NaCCED), highlighted nationwide sensitization on the 2026 national budget.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and technical support from Oxford, the budget has been simplified to make it more understandable to citizens, empowering them to track government spending.
