Bio Orders Law School Probe

President Julius Maada Bio has directed the formation of an independent committee to investigate allegations of wrongdoing at the Sierra Leone Law School.

Former Law School Director, Dr. Abu Bakarr Bangura

The announcement followed a meeting with Chief Justice Komba Kamanda, the Attorney General, and other legal officials to address concerns about the law school’s administration and its impact on the legal profession’s reputation.

The committee will be chaired by Dr. Priscilla Schwartz, former Attorney General, and includes experts in law, education, and public sector accountability.

Its mandate is to investigate alleged improprieties, review governance structures, and recommend reforms to ensure transparency, fairness, and professionalism.

The Anti-Corruption Commission has suspended its current investigation to allow the committee’s work to proceed without overlap.

The committee is expected to submit its report within eight weeks.

President Bio stressed that the move reflects his commitment to maintaining the integrity and credibility of the Sierra Leone Law School and the legal profession.
