HRCSL Vows to Tackle Discrimination

By Mariama Bundu
The Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL) has concluded a three-day mobile complaints hearing targeting vulnerable groups in Makeni and Bo.
The sessions, held from March 25 to 27, 2026, were supported by the Global Fund through World Vision Sierra Leone and aimed to identify human rights challenges and provide redress for affected individuals.
During the hearings, community leaders and key populations were engaged on the role of the Commission and the importance of protecting human rights. Participants raised concerns about discrimination, stigma, and limited access to healthcare, particularly among persons living with HIV.
Several beneficiaries shared experiences of exclusion and abuse, expressing hope that the Commission would help address their concerns. Officials from the National AIDS Secretariat also described the initiative as timely, citing ongoing challenges faced by vulnerable groups.
HRCSL representatives emphasized the need for inclusivity and equal access to services, regardless of status.
A total of 25 complaints were recorded in Bo and 27 in Makeni, covering issues such as neglect, maintenance, and other rights violations.
