A recent citizens’ poll conducted by the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDI) indicates that Sierra Leoneans strongly support a governance system that is fair, transparent, and inclusive.
On the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act, the survey found that 25% of respondents support a 50/50 gender representation, while 58% believe that merit should guide appointments.
Experts note that achieving inclusion must go hand in hand with recognizing talent.

Regarding proposed constitutional changes, 93% of citizens expressed scepticism or called for greater inclusion in the referendum process.
Nearly half (49%) worry that political interests could dominate outcomes, highlighting the need for cooperation among government, opposition, and civil society to ensure fair representation.
CHRDI emphasized that reform is about building trust, not just changing laws, and said the poll results will inform a roadmap aimed at improving accountability and citizen participation in Sierra Leone.
