Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has urged African leaders and labour stakeholders to work together to promote fair and inclusive employment across the continent.

Speaking at the 52nd Governing Council Meeting and High-Level Symposium of the African Regional Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC) at the Mamba Point Lagoonda Hotel on 12 March 2026, VP Jalloh highlighted the growing impact of digital platforms on work.
He stressed that while the platform economy creates new opportunities, governments must ensure it protects workers and upholds labour standards.
He also noted challenges such as rising debt, shifting global priorities, and declining development assistance, saying these make it crucial for African countries to strengthen domestic economies and create sustainable jobs, especially for the continent’s growing youth population.

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, said the symposium offered timely discussions on the evolving digital labour market, while South Africa’s Minister of Labour and Employment, Nomakhosazana Meth, emphasized the need for stronger regional collaboration and support for ARLAC’s financial sustainability.
