
The Independent Media Commission (IMC) has ratified the recommendations of its Complaints Committee concerning several media complaints, reinforcing its mandate to promote professional standards, accuracy, fairness, and accountability in Sierra Leone’s media sector.

Focus Independent Newspaper was fined Le 30,000 for operating without registration.
Gleaner Newspaper was fined Le 5,000 for publishing an inaccurate story linking a resort to drug-related activity and ordered to publish a retraction.
Daybreak Newspaper faced fines totaling Le 10,000 for publishing false reports, while Salone Compass and New Age Newspaper were each fined Le 5,000 for inaccurate reporting.
Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) was ordered to compensate a former employee for unlawful termination.
Standard Times Newspaper was fined Le 5,000 for publishing misleading allegations against a travel agency.
The IMC emphasized that while freedom of expression is vital, it must be exercised responsibly. Media outlets are reminded to uphold accuracy, fairness, and the right of reply to maintain public trust.
