Parliamentarians Engage Leadership on Climate Finance Project

Members of Parliament involved in the Parliamentarians for Climate Finance (PCF) Project met with the Leadership of Parliament at the Parliament Building to discuss climate change and climate financing initiatives in Sierra Leone.

The engagement focused on the progress and activities of the PCF Project, implemented by the Climate Parliament in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and funded by the Green Climate Fund. Hon. Mariama Munia Zombo, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Steering Committee on the project, emphasized its importance for sustainable development and green energy initiatives in the country.

In his remarks, Hon. Yusuf Mackery, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Climate Change, highlighted that fifteen African countries are participating in the project, which aims to expand access to energy through climate financing. He urged the Leadership of Parliament to fully embrace the initiative as a key driver of national development.

Representatives from both the government and opposition sides reaffirmed their support. Hon. Aaron Aruna Koroma, Deputy Opposition Leader II, called for increased financial allocation for climate projects, while Hon. Saa Emerson Lamina, Deputy Leader of Government Business II, pledged continued government commitment to climate action. Climate experts from UNIDO and the Climate Parliament also provided updates on the project’s progress and Phase II plans.

Members of Parliament expressed strong support for the project, highlighting the importance of climate legislation, budget oversight, and sustainable financing mechanisms. The engagement concluded with calls for continued collaboration to ensure the long-term success of climate initiatives in Sierra Leone.
