Guild’s Constitutional Review Committee Holds Maiden Meeting

The Guild of Newspaper Editors’ Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) has convened its maiden meeting to set the agenda for the review of the organisation’s Constitution.

Addressing the meeting at the SLAJ Secretariat, Chairman of the CRC, Alfred Junior Koroma, stated that he would rely on the expertise of Committee members with legal backgrounds to guide the review process, urging members to proceed expeditiously with the task.

Secretary General of the Guild of Editors, Ishmail Saidu Kanu, Esq., who also serves as Secretary to the Committee, described the constitutional review process as fundamental to the democratic governance of the Guild and expressed his expectation of the full cooperation and participation of members throughout the exercise.

A member of the Committee, Ishmail Sallieu Koroma, Esq, noted that the review process presents an opportunity to push transparency and democratic participation, allowing all members to contribute meaningfully.

Another Committee member, Stephen B. Lansana, Esq., stated that the CRC would examine key provisions of the Constitution to ensure conformity with contemporary developments in journalism in Sierra Leone.

The Committee is expected to hold two additional meetings in January, followed by a National Consultative Meeting in February. A draft amended Constitution shall be submitted to the Executive in March, prior to the adoption of the revised document at the Guild’s Annual Convention in April.
