His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio received Dr. Maxime Houinato, UN Women Regional Director for West and Central Africa, at State Lodge, Hill Station.

The visit reaffirmed UN Women’s commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s gender-focused reforms, including the implementation of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act and ongoing constitutional review processes.
Dr. Houinato praised the government’s achievements under President Bio’s leadership, highlighting the GEWE Act and the Gender Accountability Framework as landmark reforms with regional significance.
He commended the strong collaboration between Sierra Leone and UN Women at both national and international levels.
President Bio welcomed the delegation, emphasizing his administration’s continued focus on women’s empowerment through the Human Capital Development agenda.

He highlighted progress in girls’ education, STEM programs at universities, and policies supporting the inclusion of pregnant girls in schools.
The President assured UN Women of his government’s full commitment to integrating gender priorities into the constitutional reform process and implementing the GEWE Act nationwide.
